Library Closing
- The 3rd Monday (or the next day, if the 3rd Monday is a national holiday)
- For annual books inventory decided by the library.
- During New Year’s holiday from Dec.29 to Jan.4.
Registration
Anyone can use the library.
A library card is necessary for borrowing materials.
Anyone who lives, works, attends school within Kawasaki City or neighboring cities qualifies for a free library card.
( I'm sorry, but unless you live, work or attends school within Kawasaki City, you cannaot use reservation service.)
Please fill out an application form and put it out to the library counter.
Identification that shows your address will be required to obtain a library card.
（Such thing as an alien registration card, Social insurance certificate, Driver's license or School Identification card）
The library card is common in Kawasaki City Library, so that it is valid at any city library except Pref.Kawasaki Library within Kawasaki. Though the address is confirmed every three years, the card can be used as it is.
Borrowing
Present your library card with the books you want to check out at the borrowing desk.
You can borrow up to 10 books and 3 CDs. The loan period is 15 days.
A reference book with a brown label, local collections with a green label, the newest issue of a periodical and newspaper cannot be checked out. You have to use them in the library.
You can renew the due date once for another 2 weeks by filling out a form at the library, if the items are not under request. (Except CDs) Also, you can renew by using an OPAC. When you renew materials using an OPAC, you must have a library card and password.
- Books cannot be renewed by telephone or fax.
- Your borrowing privileges will be suspended if the book is long overdue.
Returning
Return materials within 15days to the returning desk.
You can return materials to any city library in Kawasaki City. Your library card is not necessary when returning books.
When the library is closed, return books to the "book drop" at the entrance.
(Do not Return CDs to the book drop, because they are very fragile.)
Reading books、magazines、newspapers
No procedures are needed at the desk. Take them from shelves and go directly to reading space. After reading,return books to their original shelves.
Library Catalog Information
You can search our holdings with the computer system called OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog)
You may enter the Web OPAC clicking the "蔵書検索" (Japanese words for 'Search the catalog') button of the navigation bar. Sorry but all contents except this page are written in Japanese.
On the terminal computers placed in the library, you can also search our holdings.
If you choose English within the menu, you can change the language to English
Reservation
When you find an item that you want to read in the catalog, you can reserve it. ( I'm sorry,but unless you live, work or attend school in Kawasaki City, you cannot use this service.) When the book becomes available, we'll notify you by e-mail. We will keep it for １０days. After the date, the reservation will be cancelled.
You can make a reservation by filling out a form at the library. Also, you can make a reservation using an OPAC. When you reserve materials using an OPAC, you must have a library card and password. Please apply to the library counter if you don't have them.
Viewing Your Account
You can find out what you have checked out , reserved, or overdue by this home page and the terminal computers placed in the library. When you try to find out them, your library card number and password are requested. If you don't have password, please fill out a form and apply to the library counter by yourself. Library card will be required to obtain a password. You can not use the password as it is, please change it your own one by yourself using terminal computer or this home page. If you use both terminal computer and Internet, you need to obtain two kinds of passwords.
Protection of user’s privacy
Any circulation record (telling who borrows what) is eliminated when return data is put in.
No circulation record is open to the public.
No personal data such as user's name or address are open to the public,too.
